I’ve been lucky enough to live in some really wonderful places, including New York, and the only trouble with moving around so much in the last seven years is that it gives me more places to miss. Rather than a sleek, modern, minimalist take on urban, I wanted to go more classic. The two main points of inspiration for this board are the exterior of Aureole (one of the better meals I’ve had in my life) which is so unassumingly chic and so classic New York, and the bride in a trench coat – how cool and sophisticated do you have to be to pull off a trench coat over your wedding gown? I imagine an intimate candle-lit ceremony followed by an exquisite dinner party, and I love the idea of asking guests (however circuitously) to give favorite books in lieu of other gifts.

Mood: no fuss sophistication, urban classic
Palette: chocolate, brick, gold, white

Ever since Lisa Lefkowitz posted a darling kid shoot on her blog with some lemonade stand photos, I’ve been dreaming up a wedding board loosely based on that idea – of a lemonade stand. Not all-out lemons and yellow, but rather a rustic, slightly nostalgic look. To achieve this, I incorporated a worn wooden-framed chalkboard stand, a porch full of rocking chairs, a gold heart locket, and the charming old-timey typography that Jessica Hische designed for a lemonade label.

Mood: rustic nostalgia
Palette: yellow, green, touches of pale pink

I don’t claim to love the winter or anything, but I can appreciate how really beautiful it can be. And I couldn’t resist creating a winter wedding board based on this beautiful photo by Jacqueline Veissid. I love the combination of the stark white and bare branches with sweet birds and pops of red – perfect for winter.

Mood: winter chic
Palette: cool white, red, gray-brown

Gold might be my new favorite accent color. It works with so many other colors – hot pink, peach, emerald green, red – and adds luxury to any palette. Inspired by the cover photo from the March 2006 issue of Domino, I’ve paired it with teal and white, and I think it’s a combination of colors that could work in winter, spring, or summer. Gold isn’t as neutral as gray or brown, and if you let it take over I imagine things could get pretty gaudy, but little flashes of gold? Mixed in with another color? Love it.

Mood: bright, shiny
Palette: teal, gold, white
