Whoo – this week just flew by! And it sure was toasty here. Our little kitty was sprawled out on the bathroom tile trying to keep cool, and I was in shorts (which, let me tell you, happens never). We’ve been enjoying lots of farmers market goodies, eating dinner outside, and spending time with friends – all the best parts of summer. And just to round out the summer goodness, we’re going to a baseball game this weekend.

Some fun links for you today, starting with this awesome pic. Don’t you wish you knew the story that went along with it?

Please tell me I’m not the only person out there who loves walking into Williams-Sonoma, planning out my dream kitchen. I did this even before I was engaged and setting up my registry there! If you’re anything like me, then you’re going to be really excited about today’s giveaway – you can enter to win a $150 gift card from Williams-Sonoma just by registering or adding a new item to your current registry.

Some of the things from W-S that I love and use just about everyday are my flour sack dishtowels (I’m a firm believer that one cannot have enough of these in the house – they’ve totally replaced paper towels for me), my Silpat non-stick baking sheet liner (no longer leaving half the cookie on the cookie sheet), and my Picardie drinking glasses (they make me feel like I’m at a French cafe!).

And then there’s my fantasy kitchen, with things like a waffle maker, a marble pastry board, copper mixing bowl and yes, a fancy garlic press (my sister has one of these and I want it).

Now, who wants that $150 gift card? To enter, you need to:

- Register with Williams-Sonoma, then leave a comment here letting us know you’ve registered, and what your favorite W-S item is and why.
- Or, if you’re already registered, add another item to your registry, and leave a comment here letting us know what you’ve added, as well as your favorite W-S item.

You have until next Wednesday, September 1st, to enter. I will announce the randomly selected winner on Friday, September 3rd. Oh, I should also mention that you can receive an extra entry if you include your public registry link in the comment. I can’t wait to hear all about what you’ve registered for!

After a traditional Hindu ceremony in India, Chase and Vik wanted to host a wedding celebration for their friends and family in the United States. 100 guests joined them in the bride’s childhood home in Salt Lake City for a celebration full of bright and bold colors, from turquoise to tangerine, and a fusion of American and Indian elements. Chase was kind enough to stop by with some details about the backyard reception:

I wanted a robin’s egg blue and orange palette with accents of pink. From there, ideas started to form and I worked with my planner to create a colorful and romantic party that was also unique, playful and a little kitschy. We shared our wedding from India with everyone by hanging the photographs of us between two trees in the garden with clothespins, and we played the video of our wedding ceremony inside the house for people to watch.

Friends of the bride designed and printed the letterpress invitations, as well as planned and coordinated the flowers and other details from the day.

How cute are these bride and groom dishtowels?! You can find similar ones at Anthropologie. Chase’s friends, Cathy and Lauren Brady, designed the wedding decor using the bride’s suggestions, and supplying many of their own vintage pieces and furniture. (Keep an eye out for their website, Saucy & Kitsch, coming soon.)

Our band, Red Rock Hot Club, plays Gypsy Jazz. Their music really set the perfect tone for the evening. A collection of Bollywood music followed the live music.

We served a variety of Indian dishes including chicken curry, malai kofta, and samba, and had a hand selected wine and beer menu. We also served Izzy soda that matched our colors (pink and orange) accented with a blue and white striped paper straw. And of course what is a wedding without champagne! The top layer of our wedding cake was vanilla bean with rose filling covered in Italian honey-vanilla buttercream, and the bottom layer was hazelnut chocolate with hazelnut praline and dark chocolate ganache. The woman that made our cake was a friend of a friend who happened to be a fabulous baker. The cake toppers were these darling vintage Lefton bluebird salt and pepper shakers. In addition to cake, we served a traditional Indian wedding dessert called gulab jamun which is a delicious dough ball served with a syrup seasoned with cardamom, and rosewater or saffron.

Bonnie Tsang (the fab photographer behind the lavender farm faux wedding) is back today with more eye candy for us. For their intimate wedding, Valerie and Rob chose Marvimon in Los Angeles because of its combination of gorgeous outdoor space and funky indoor area. Says Valerie, “When I saw it on my wedding day, with all the flowers and candles and tables set up, I could not believe how gorgeous it looked.”

From the bride: One of my favorite moments was walking down the aisle and seeing everyone we love all in one place. It was totally magical and everything really came together perfectly – it just knocked me out! And I then I saw Rob smiling at the end of the aisle and I was overwhelmed with a rush of emotion and totally cried, making that weird cry face. I’m sure those pictures are going to be awesome!

All of Valerie and Rob’s stationery, from the invites to the menus, was designed and printed by Urbanic Paper Boutique.

Every time I went on a wedding blog, I would see all this DIY stuff and get freaked out thinking I should be making my invitations by hand from ribbon and twigs. I give a lot of credit to women who do that stuff, but my advice to brides is, if you’re not DIY-y, don’t stress out about it. I left all that up to my florist, Holly Flora. And I loved how everything turned out. Planning a wedding is stressful enough, so don’t freak about doing stuff you think you should be doing.

How much do you love all the brick? So urban chic!

Vanilla Bake Shop made our wedding cake: vanilla cake with vanilla frosting, Rob’s favorite. We also had macaroons and mini cupcakes, which I heard were good, but I never manged to taste them!

Another favorite part of the night was during dinner. Marvimon has a large projection screen and we played To Catch a Thief. My favorite part of that movie is the fireworks scene with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, and that scene played during dinner. Such a random moment that I will never forget – I was so totally happy right then. And my 7-year-old nephew loved it too!

You might remember this dreamy California wedding (and really, how often do I call something dreamy?) from when I linked to it awhile ago – I just couldn’t resist sharing it again here on Snippet & Ink. Romantic, rustic elegance at its loveliest…

A clean gray and white palette lets Laura Hooper’s beautiful calligraphy stand out in Liz and Chris’ stationery suite (also, check out the hand-drawn map). A floral envelope liner and postage stamps bring in subtle pops of color.

Kate Holt from Flowerwild created a bouquet of lush garden roses in peach and white, tied with a beautiful pleated ribbon. Just one of the many details that gave the rustic Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse a touch of formality.

This tulle blusher veil from Erin Cole is a softer alternative to a birdcage veil.

From the bride: Our car ride to the reception was my favorite moment of the day! After getting married at the church, Chris and I were chauffeured  through the beautiful hills back to the farmhouse. Beside our sweet driver, it was just the two of us alone. We toasted with a bottle of champagne and reveled in our brand new newlywed status. It was all love.

In another blend of rustic and formal, guests enjoyed strawberry lemonade served in mason jars as well as chocolate raspberry martinis. The drink menu also included jasmine iced tea, mango mojitos, and spring flower sangria.

Just to give you a little taste of the gourmet dinner, the menu included items such as grilled apricots with pink peppercorns, goat cheese and pistachios. Doesn’t that just sound like something that should be eaten al fresco?

Flowers were arranged in a variety of silver vessels, as well as in colorful tea tins.

Liz suggests making time for just the two of you during your wedding day. “It helps slow the day down and allows you to take it all in,” she says. “We loved every minute of our wedding weekend, but when we reflect back, it was the moments that we stepped away together that we now cherish the most.”

The couple’s first dance was to music played by Spanish guitars.
