Alicia & Brett | Quirky Desert Wedding in Utah

Alicia and Brett planned their wedding in just 6 weeks! Just goes to show that you don’t need months and months to plan a sweet, meaningful wedding.

Why did you choose this location for your wedding? St. George is Brett’s hometown and holds so many memories for us while we were dating. We also fell in love with the St. George temple and knew it was where we wanted to get married. Even though I have always wanted a summer wedding, we decided to get married in the winter – and it turned out to be a beautiful 60 degrees throughout the day!

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? So many things! It was so hard to choose a certain style and look for the wedding since we planned it in only 6 weeks! I went back and forth a dozen times trying to narrow things down. I knew I wanted some modern elements and vintage elements as well so I mixed the two and it seemed to flow really nicely. We wanted our style to be apparent in the design and to really reflect who we are as a couple.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day? Having our families and close friends at the ceremony. It was really special and meant so much to us to have them be part of our wedding day.

Did you include any traditions in your wedding? Each Christmas my dad lines luminarias along the sidewalks and in our yard, I wanted to have that tradition be a part of our wedding so my dad gathered his supplies and hand made each luminaria the night before our wedding and placed them on the walk way where guests entered the reception.

What advice do you have for other brides? Planning a wedding is stressful, but the wedding day shouldn’t be. Try not to let the details of the wedding take your attention away – let them fall in the hands of those who are helping you.

Aubrey & Heath | Rustic Wedding in North Carolina

Susan Dean sent over this beautiful, rustic wedding from mountains of North Carolina…

Welcome gifts included treats that were meaningful to the bride and groom. Says the bride: In addition to a welcome note and guest information, the gifts included bottles of Mountain Valley Spring Water from Arkansas, where my husband is from and where we first met. We also included miniature handmade burlap feed sacks filled with homemade snacks as a nod to my grandfather who owned and operated a feed mill in Kentucky for nearly half a century called Aubrey’s Red A Feed.

Aubrey and Heath’s beloved dog made an appearance at the wedding (and on the stationery!).

Why did you choose this location for your wedding? Family and friends are the most important thing to my husband and me, and we wanted our guests to feel welcome and comfortable, like we were inviting everyone over for a long relaxing and celebratory weekend at our home. The Inn at Half-Mile Farm provided the perfect atmosphere. We reserved the entire Inn for the weekend, and our guests had the option of hiking, canoeing, or swimming on the property, or venturing out into the town of Highlands.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? The mountain culture of North Carolina guided the design and feel of our wedding. Our floral designer owns a flower farm just outside of Asheville, North Carolina where she grows beautiful flowers native to the region. We also included traditional Appalachian music in our wedding ceremony including a hammered dulcimer and bagpipes.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day? My husband and I knew that the day of our wedding would be fairly hectic, and that we would be pulled in different directions, so we decided to have breakfast together the morning of our wedding. The Inn served us a delicious breakfast in the privacy of the groom’s suite. We took this time to write our vows, and it was a very calming way to start what was an otherwise busy day.

What was the best advice you received as a bride? The best advice I received was from my sister-in-law. She said that everyone would have an opinion as I prepared for the wedding, and that I should kindly thank them for the advice and tell them I would keep their ideas in mind. However, at the end of the day you have to do what you think is right. It is your wedding after all!

Did you include any traditions in your wedding? I come from a large Irish Catholic family and one of my ancestors was a priest in the Catholic Church. My great-grandparents presented him with a communion chalice when he entered the priesthood. The chalice has been used in numerous family wedding ceremonies, including my parent’s wedding. My husband and I incorporated this tradition into our wedding by having my aunt conduct a wine ceremony. She said a blessing and my husband and I shared wine from the chalice.

Is there anything else that helps tell the story of the day? My grandmother made a wedding quilt for my husband and me using the same fabric she used for my parent’s wedding quilt. We displayed both of the quilts at the wedding reception to honor my grandmother who was unable to attend due to illness. We also displayed our grandparent’s wedding photographs to honor the groom’s grandmother who was also unable to attend, as well as our grandparents who are no longer with us.

Says Fiona: ”Alix and Romain will tie the knot next summer in a gorgeous chateau in the French countryside. For their engagement photos, we simply took a stroll in their favorite spots around the city. Our session took place on pretty cold day in the midst of winter, but it was worth it!
