There is something to be said for a keeping your wedding celebration small and intimate, and that’s just what Jennifer and Scott decided to do. They were joined by the bride’s two sisters and the groom’s parents at their April nuptials at the St. Regis Deer Valley…
Says Jennifer: “Scott’s dad surprised us with a poem he had written. This is a wonderful family tradition on their side. He has written several poems over the years for important family occasions, including both of Scott’s sister’s weddings and they are always a highlight of the day. Right after we had exchanged our vows and were toasting with a glass of champagne, Scott’s dad gathered us around to begin his poem. It was a wonderful moment and truly touched us!”
The fireside ceremony was followed by dinner at the St. Regis.
Small wedding? How about a cake for each guest?!
Why did you choose this location for your wedding? Scott and I both wanted an outdoor wedding surrounded by nature, and we love the mountains. We wanted a location that was beautiful and felt intimate. The St. Regis in Deer Valley was perfect! Not only is it a beautiful property, but also offers a very warm feel.
What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? It was important to both of us to have a small and intimate wedding. We wanted the day to be a true celebration of the start of our marriage and to be about us as a couple. We decided to focus on family, delicious food and a beautiful backdrop. For us, the day was not a blur. Instead, we have so many wonderful memories shared with those closest to us.
Do you have any budget tips for other brides? My only advice would be not to let financial pressure from the wedding cause stress in your relationship. We decided early on that we would not begin our marriage financially stressed, so we made a budget for the wedding and stuck to it. Also, having a very small wedding helped! We were able to do things that were really important to us because it was on a much smaller scale. We were able to spend more money on things we loved.
What was your favorite moment or part of the day? Our favorite moment of the day was during our “first look” photo session. Erin took us off the beaten path for some pictures and those moments stand out in our memory.
What was the best advice you received as a bride? The best advice I received as a bride was to enjoy every minute of the day! My sisters both told me to not let any small glitches upset me, because my wedding day was all about marrying a wonderful man and nothing else mattered! My advice would be the same! Don’t get caught up in the technicalities of the day, but rather enjoy the meaning behind what the day represents.
