There’s an Old Hollywood glamour to this wedding that is just impossible to resist, from the bride’s wavy half-up-half-down coif to the groom’s classic tux (with the addition of a playful polka dotted bow tie!). Photos by Josh Elliott.
The bride and her bridesmaids wore black and pink silk charmeuse pajamas by Oscar de la Renta while they got ready for the big day.
The bride’s nude patent leather pumps were an engagement gift from her mother. She also wore a sapphire and diamond bracelet that belongs to her grandmother – something borrowed and something blue. The groom wore his own something borrowed: a pair of vintage shoes that belong to his father.
Says the bride: “Matthew had three must-haves: a Catholic ceremony, an open bar, and a live band. Once those were taken care of, I added my love of bows, polka dots and monograms. We wanted our wedding to be both traditional and fun. So although Matthew wore a traditional black tux, his polka dot bow tie made it fun. And at cocktail hour, we had traditional monogramed cocktail napkins with fun polka dot straws.”
“One of my favorite moments was after we were pronounced husband and wife, I surprised Matthew with a bag pipe player to lead us out of the church. I will never forget his expression!”
The head table was adorned with a moss-covered monogram.
Why did you choose this location for your wedding? Newport Beach is where we first met and lived while we were engaged so it was both sentimental and convenient. I have always loved my Grandparents’ country club but Matthew was the one who originally suggested it for our reception venue. I am so glad he did!
What was your favorite moment or part of the day? One of Matthew’s favorite moments was when we first walked into our reception with all our friends and family cheering for us.
What was the best advice you received as a bride? Everyone says how quickly the day goes by, so one of Matthew’s friends suggested to have someone tell us what time it was each hour. It was a great reminder to really soak everything in and appreciate the day.
What advice do you have for other brides? Hire vendors you trust! It will make the planning process and the “Big Day” so much more enjoyable.
Do you have any budget tips for other brides? JoS. A. Bank ran a “Buy 1, Get 3 Free” sale, so we rallied Matthew’s brothers and they each bought a tux for about the same cost of a rental. And, unlike a rental, they were able to tailor them so they fit perfectly!
