Erica emailed me with a problem. She really wants to use pool blue as a color for her November wedding, but was having trouble making it work for fall. She wants her wedding to be playful, but still elegant and formal, and she loves hot air balloons and polka dots. To pull all of this together, I added tangerine orange and chocolate brown to the pool blue, making a palette that fits well with a fall wedding. How have you made off-season colors work for your wedding?

Mood: playfully elegant
Palette: pool blue, chocolate brown, tangerine

Kathryn, I love your color boards and the whole site, but I have to tell you that you are killing me with all of the brown. It is everywhere these days and I think becoming a bit much. I recognize its beauty and ability to be matched with a lot of different colors, but as a bride working on her colors with the one stipulation of no brown, it becomes frustrating.Thank you for all the work you put into your blog! I hope I wasn’t too harsh.

lazynybride……..I hear you on the brown. I am also feeling this way about the whole green craze (especially black, white and green). I love both of these colors, but I am getting a little tired too. Maybe a light brown (tan/khaki) might be refreshing?

I love this board! And, I have to say, I’m a firm beliver (with some exceptions I guess) that if you love the colors you can use the colors, and to heck with it. Probably more important then the season is the venue/local/time of day. My Dad of all people nixed little black dresses outside in the morning in August in a garden as being a no go. So I suppose that might be a example of a exception. And, I agree with everyone. I too, amd way over brown. Following trends with wedding colors probably IS a mistake! Go with what you love :)

I got married on May 5 last year, and used these colors! To be honest, I don’t feel like the blue is off-season. The fall sky in New England is this color.I love hot air balloons; what a beautiful motif!

Very lovely board! Well done! I like the idea of turquoise/yellow/orange… it’s one of my top contenders at the moment!

Those invitations from Sesame Letterpress are to die for – I must admit to having a very soft spot for old school balloon detailing – anything that reminds me of the circus or carnivals – love it!

The aqua/pool blue and tangerine are my exact colors for my August wedding in San Diego. Check out my blog to see what I’ve done/ thinking of doing with these colors: http://kirstenweds.blogspot.com/search/label/Turquoise%20wedding
