Laura Hooper Calligraphy is a long-time favorite of ours and we’re so happy she’s gearing up for more calligraphy workshops this year! It’s no secret that her beginner’s workshops are a great way to get your feet wet, let alone being the best way to spend a few hours enjoying drinks and bites with other creative ladies.

The lucky attendees who snagged tickets to her Seattle workshop were in for a real treat – Jen Leslie Events designed such an inspiring workspace! The venue’s industrial look was balanced out with gorgeous Spring flowers from Butter & Bloom, who also baked homemade sugar cookies for each guest. A sugar cookie wouldn’t be complete without Laura Hooper penning a fun message on it, would it?

With custom mocktails, popcorn, and macarons at the ready, workshop attendees settled in to tackle the basics of modern pointed-pen calligraphy. The three-hour session covered tools, pen strokes, proper technique, and a full Copperplate alphabet!

Laura Hooper Calligraphy offers workshops in major cities all over the United States and Canada – visit to register for an event in your area and pick up some of Laura’s favorite calligraphy supplies. If you aren’t able to make it to a class in a city near you, download her online tutorial right now!

BHLDN is in our hometown of San Francisco for a Pop-up Shop this week, and they invited our new editor, Lena, to take some of their newest Spring gowns for a twirl! How could we say no?! Here she is in the Persiphone gown, with a beaded bodice and fuller layered tulle skirt. So romantic!

BHLDN has just launched its Spring collection of more than 30 new gowns, from design partners like Badgley Mischka, Watters, Tadashi Shoji, Nicole Miller, and Rosa Clara. And with gorgeous details like illusion necklines, delicate sleeves, ruffled trains, lace, embroidery, and more, there is absolutely something for every bride, no matter your style. Below, our girl Lena models Diana Chandelier earrings and the Adalynn gown: stitched ivory organza with a mermaid skirt and train, and we love the beautiful back!

Appointments for trying on gown samples filled up super quickly, but you can still stop by and check out a curated assortment of flower girl dresses, accessories (sashes, veils, jewelry, and more), and even decor. The best part is that if you love what you find, you can purchase it on site and take it right home with you! And if you have your heart set on a BHLDN gown, you can shop the entire collection online, and even have a consultation with one of their stylists.

Isn’t Lena totally Downton Abbey chic in the Bettina gown and Floret tulle sash? Love those delicate flutter sleeves! Magnolia gown below, right.

I think this next dress is my very favorite… the Valentina gown… the front is so sleek, and then can’t you just imagine the dramatic ruffled back walking down the aisle? Gorgeous!

BHLDN‘s San Francisco Pop-up Shop is at Firehouse 8 (also a pretty awesome wedding venue), located at 1648 Pacific Avenue (between Van Ness Avenue and Polk Street). Pop-up shop hours: Monday – Friday from 11 am – 7 pm, and Saturday – Sunday from 10 am – 6 pm.

Thanks so much to BHLDN for inviting Lena and Snippet & Ink to give the Spring collection a try!

I was gathering images for this post to tell you about Stephanie Fishwick‘s upcoming calligraphy workshop, and when I looked up from my computer, somehow over an hour had passed and I felt like I was coming out of a dream. The work on her website is perfection on paper, no doubt. But her Instagram feed? Spend just 30 seconds there and you’ll want to dive right in with ink and paper and get messy making some beautiful creations of your own…

Maybelle Imasa-Stukuls did the calligraphy for my wedding day, and she’s one of our Select vendors – needless to say, when I heard about her Petals & Penmanship workshop with floral designer Tulipina, I couldn’t wait to share it with you! And then she emailed me with the opportunity to give one Snippet & Ink reader a free seat in the upcoming class on April 19th, and I knew you would be just as excited about it as I am!

If you’re in the Bay Area, or if you can get to LUXsf Studio in San Francisco for this all-day workshop on this coming Saturday, April 19, 2014, and if you adore beautiful flowers and calligraphy and want to learn more, then this workshop is for you!

Attendees will get hands-on practice with lush, garden-style floral design, as well as an in-depth introduction to calligraphy, from two very talented wedding artists. Class will run from 10am to 4pm. All materials and supplies are included, and a light lunch will be provided. Each attendee will take home a floral arrangement, calligraphy kit, and plenty of inspiration!

You can sign up for the workshop right HERE. Or…

… you can enter to win! To enter for the chance to win a seat in the Petals & Penmanship workshop for this Saturday, April 19, 2014, just leave a comment on this post letting us know what you’re most excited to learn. You have until tomorrow at 11:59PM PDT to enter, and the winner will be contact by email and announced back on this post.

Update! Lauren is the winner of the seat at the Petals & Penmanship workshop this Saturday. Lauren said: “I’m getting married this year, and it would help keep the cost down if I could write the invitations by hand. What a beautiful thing it would be to learn calligraphy!”

I was lucky enough to attend one of Ariella Chezar’s workshops last year, and it was such a treat to see her in action. Corbin Gurkin was at the most recent workshop and captured it beautifully.

Says Ariella, “After years of hosting workshops in far off locales, I chose my home turf of the Berkshires for the most recent one. It’s such a spectacular time of year round these parts, and the flowers, all in their final hurrah, are marvelous. It was such a treat to share what I love in a place that I love.”

Ariella’s three-day Master Class workshops include bridal bouquets, large and small compote arrangements, tall branch and vine arrangements, as well as a complete tablescape…

I absolutely adore Ariella’s creative use of items like tomatoes and peppers (sometime fruit and berries). I mean, how sweet and fun are these chair garlands?!

Thanks to Snippet & Ink Select vendors Ariella and Corbin for sharing these beautiful photos of a stunning workshop!
