Today marks the first official day of summer, and it is officially HOT. An easygoing oceanside inspiration board seemed like just the thing. This faded blue and white palette has a preppy vibe to it, and though I love its simplicity, a pop of orange or pink could punch it up for those with a preference for more color. Summery details include blueberries, seersucker, espadrilles and hydrangea. Oars, sailboats and cracked crab play up the coastal setting.

If you’re a long time reader of Snippet & Ink, then you know how much I love a classic green and white wedding – it’s always such a timeless choice, and a look that is easy to execute well. Today, I wanted to take that classic palette and give it a fun and preppy kick with some stripes: a skirt for the bridesmaids, an under cloth for the table, a tie for the groom. Maybe envelope liners, too? I love simple details that, while elegant, are totally DIY-able, like fruit bowl centerpieces and finger sandwiches. White calligraphy on green envelopes is a playful and updated touch. And the cap sleeved eyelet dress from Lilly Pulitzer is so perfectly preppy, it seemed made for this inspiration board.

Cinco de Mayo’s tequila tasting post made me think it was time for some warm weather wedding inspiration, and today’s board definitely fits the bill. I’ve imagined this wedding in Miami or Palm Springs, though anywhere hot and sandy would do. The mostly white color scheme with green and orange accents is fun and playful, yet still somewhat understated – not easy to do with a color like orange! The panama hat with an orange grosgrain trim is an updated classic. A one-shouldered gown is a modern choice, and a pop of coral orange lipstick makes a statement. The cake is monochromatic with clean lines, letting other elements stand out. Frankly, I think this inspiration board would translate as well into a summertime party as it would into a wedding.

Black and red each exude drama, doubly so when paired together. Sometimes a little too much, maybe. But if you think blackberries and raspberries, the dramatic colors turn sweeter. In this imagined garden wedding with its berry motif, black and red act as accents, adding a touch romance, whimsy and sophistication without being overbearing. Hints of pale blush pink and the backdrop of garden green round it all out nicely.

Like I said last week, I’ve been having fun revisiting some of my past inspiration boards, including this Lemon and Iris post from three years ago. The arrangement with lemons and purple irises is one of my all-time favorites, and I’ve re-imagined a simple garden wedding with lemon desserts, lemon cocktails, and lemon marmalade favors to take home. And a fun dancing dress for the bride!

Mood: cheery spring romance
Palette: purple iris, lemon yellow, garden green
