The first inspiration board of 2011 is dedicated to my talented photographer, Elizabeth Messina. She has a love of all things vintage, French and romantic, and I created this board with those three elements in mind – I think the only thing missing is chocolate. Vintage paper candy cones and a simple bouquet of old-fashioned roses are perfectly sweet details, while pearl-studded silk shoes, an antique lace veil, and ornate calligraphy in gold engraving are utterly luxurious. Add champagne and croquembouche, and set the whole thing in a gorgeous 18th-century French chateau. Sounds pretty dreamy to me!

Mood: vintage French romance

I couldn’t let December get away without posting at least one inspiration board, and I knew it had to be a Christmas-y, winter-y one! Right now, I’m loving white and gold – it’s warm and rich, yet it can be surprisingly simple. Here, I’ve imagined decorating with wreaths on the doors and windows, pillar candles on the table, and whimsical menus and stationery. Instead of nutmeg, garnish eggnog with tiny flakes of edible gold. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, how about a gingerbread “town square” cake? A long-sleeved lace dress is a perfectly timeless choice for a winter bride.

Mood: winter warm, sweet and simple
Palette: golden ochre, eggnog white

Here is the second inspiration board I made when I did a couple guest posts for 100 Layer Cake earlier this year, so you may or may not have seen it already. But either way, I hope you enjoy it!

Last year, when coco+kelley asked me to make some color predictions, one of my palette picks was deep red and peach. I don’t know how successful my prediction was, but I sure do love the look, and I’ve been meaning to create an inspiration board with it ever since. Romantic without being overly sweet, and sophisticated without being too serious. And that cake is one of my very favorite things ever!

Mood: rich autumn sophistication
Palette: cranberry-apple red, rosy peach, buttercream

Earlier this year I did a few guest posts for the lovely ladies over at 100 Layer Cake, but since I’d never shared those inspiration boards here on Snippet & Ink, I thought I’d post them for you before this year gets away from us!

When I started blogging, it seemed like every other wedding I saw or attended was this super sweet pink and green, and I think it’s probably a palette that will always be popular. But as I said in my guest post, “it can come across as saccharine and unsophisticated. I love playing with colors, seeing if I can make predictable color palettes new, or pairing colors that might not seem obvious together, and here black tones down the sweetness, and makes it all look chic.”

Mood: modern romantic
Palette: melon-mint green, pale grapefruit pink, black avocado

Top row from left: still life with grapefruit and avocado by Arjan Benning via concrete and honey, green Vera Wang gown from Charleston Weddings, mint green boxes from Ladurée
Row 2: pink rose centerpiece by Ariella Chezar, shoes under cloche from Lonny
Row 3: dahlia photo by Erin Hearts Court, black table with pink bow ties from Martha Stewart Weddings, pale mint green dress via Dress Design Decor
Row 4: salty dog cocktails by Matt Bites, flea market invite by Bird & Banner, anemone bouquet by Ariella Chezar

Isn’t there something totally creepy about Victorian-era things? This inspiration board is probably more appropriate for a Halloween party than a wedding, but why not. Haunted gothic manors, Victorian hairstyles and dress, apothecary bottles and tonic labels, ravens and masks. And Edgar Allen Poe, of course. Anyone have Halloween plans that look anything like this? Oh, and just for fun, check out these witchy, ghosty pics.

Mood: Victorian Gothic
Palette: black, white, sepia, red
