Mood: elegant, moody
Palette: midnight black, gold pumpkins, candle white

For my annual Halloween inspiration board, I wanted to avoid anything too obvious, so I chose a gold and black palette (instead of orange and black), and let the main decor be pumpkins painted gold plus lots and lots of candles. Other little details nod to the spooky holiday without being theme-y: a skull-and-crossbones bow tie, and a gorgeous gown reminiscent of a spider web.

On a totally separate note: Sending all my thoughts to everyone on the East Coast – I hope that everyone weathered the storm safely, and that things go back to normal very soon!

Mood: warm rustic elegance
Palette: barn wood, foliage, rust

Are you on Lover.ly yet? If you’re looking for nothing but wedding inspiration, then you won’t want to miss it! This week, they’re highlighting Snippet & Ink on the homepage, so I thought it would be fun to create an inspiration board with some of my recent Lover.ly finds. Something rustic, and elegant and warm – something for the middle of fall. Branches, grasses and fruit are unexpectedly luxurious, and appropriate for the season. Candlelight and calligraphy add refinement to weathered barn wood and a rusty old truck. This cozy, beautiful warmth is just what I love about autumn!

Mood: luxe autumn harvest
Palette: plum, aubergine, burnished gold, cream

One of the things I love most about imagining fall weddings is the rich color palette – ochre, aubergine, burnt sienna, burnished gold. I’ve been collecting images for a deep plum and rich gold inspiration board for awhile, and finally came up with something that I love – something that I think could work equally well for an elegant wedding or a more rustic event. Or even for Thanksgiving dinner! Bowls of fruit and fall leaves are appropriate decorative elements for an autumn wedding.

Mood: playful, rustic, low-key
Palette: black, white, honey gold, green, tan

I love black and white as a way to dress up a rustic event – it seems sort of unexpected and even a little bit modern. Here it’s more black and tan, I guess, and the effect is warm and a little bit playful, especially with details like funnel cakes and a silhouette artist. Dahlias and sunflower centers tiptoe back and forth between summer and fall, and a rustic venue feels like the perfect place to be as one season transitions into the next…

My baby sister is getting married! She seems set on doing most of the planning on her own, but she did give me a little direction so I could work on an inspiration board for her. They’ve picked Lyon’s Farmette in Colorado as their venue, and the date is set for about a year from now, so I went with a “late summer bounty” theme. Lots of deep purple fruit, foliage, and black and white gingham to keep things playful. You’ll probably be seeing a couple more inspiration boards made with Lora’s wedding in mind – hopefully she’ll end up using one of them!
