If you have been following my little project with Martha from Nibs, then this board should seem somewhat familiar. We challenged ourselves to pull elements together for a wedding inspired by a J.Crew ensemble. As a finale, I thought I’d pull an inspiration board together, using images from our challenge, and using the key words that Martha came up with to focus this project: nautical, classic, blue, white, simple, silver, playful. How do you think it turned out? Does this inspiration board fit the feel of the original outfit and the key words?

Mood: nautical, classic, simple, playful
Palette: blue, white, tan, gray

…it’s a library wedding! Complete with library card save-the-dates and stacks of books under every centerpiece. You can use an old typewriter for your guest book, and give small journals for favors. Here, even the bridesmaids’ bouquet is part book (would that be a book-et? bad pun?), wrapped with colorful ribbon and decorated with chocolate cosmos. Another idea is to use book catalog cards as seating cards, and name tables after sections in the Dewey decimal system. Even if you don’t get married in a library, the stacks of antique books as part of the centerpieces is one of my favorite elements, and is an easy way to incorporate your and your fiance’s love of reading.

Mood: erudite elegance
Palette: rich red and mahogany, faded-paper ivory

Update! I meant to include this earlier – Martha B did a library-inspired wedding board awhile back and it is truly lovely. For more library inspiration, take a look!

It seems that the easiest way to end up with a beautiful wedding, is to start with a beautiful venue. The more special the place, the less you have to do to make it look good. In this do-it-yourself inspiration board (remember, March is DIY Wedding month), I imagine a waterfront wedding, with picnic tables and such a pretty view that the only decorations are punched tin votives and lanterns. Some other do-it-yourself elements for this wedding are: seating cards made with rubber stamps of different constellations, a lobster and clambake dinner, paper cones of potato chips, a ring pillow made from a handkerchief, and sparkler favors. If you start with a spectacular venue and the people you love, you don’t have to do much to make a lovely event. Of course, if you want to splurge and end the night with a fireworks show, than that’s fun too!

The gorgeous and whimsical bouquet that Katie Duong created for her own wedding (featured in Martha Stewart Weddings) is the main point of inspiration for this wedding. The colors of late summer run throughout this inspiration board: browns, golds, barely-there blush and a hint of green.

Sorry for the late post! I thought an intimate beach wedding, with a soft, muted palette would be nice today. Just family and very close friends and sweet details without too much fuss.
