Today let’s go to Tuscany! Sarah and Chris chose the lovely Il Salviatino in Florence for their destination wedding, and kindly shared the day with us…

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  We chose to get married abroad to give us the opportunity to style a wedding which was unique to us and allowed us to create a wedding reception without having the expectations of a traditional wedding. We chose Italy because of the relaxed, friendly and modern Italian culture, and we chose Il Salviatino as our venue because as it truly is one of the best venues in Italy!

What was your favorite moment or part of the day?  We hired a classic Italian Cinque Cento, which we drove for the short distance from the Town Hall to the reception. It is Italian custom to beep your horn to celebrate your wedding, so when we arrived at Il Salviatino, all our guests heard us coming and were waiting for us as we drove up the driveway. This memory really has stuck in our minds.

Did you include any traditions in your wedding?  One of our aims was to make our wedding as non-traditional as possible, so the only tradition we observed was that Chris never saw me in my wedding dress until I arrived at the ceremony.

What advice do you have for other brides?  If getting married abroad, it is really worthwhile investing in a wedding planner/interpreter. Elena worked behind the scenes running up to the wedding, and ensured that all the legalities were finalized, and that everything ran smoothly on the day. Most importantly – soak up the day, enjoy every minute, try not to worry about if your guests are enjoying themselves or not and take 5 minutes with your groom away from all the chaos, to reflect on your day.

Kelly from Kelly Oshiro Design and Santa Barbara Chic shared her sister’s sweet English wedding with me, and we thought it would be fun to cross-post about it, so you can also catch more photos and details on her blog. Such a sweet rainy day wedding!

Bridesmaids wore matching lavender dresses, and carried small bouquets of roses and hydrangea.

Mark wore a traditional morning suit. Tracy wore less traditional galoshes for walking around in the rain.

Tracy customized menus from Wedding Paper Divas with Florentine paper from Paper Source and wax seal monograms. Blue toile runners added extra charm to the tables.

Thank you to Kelly Oshiro for sharing her sister’s darling wedding with us! Read some of Kelly’s posts about the planning here, here, and here. But first, some details from the lovely bride!

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  Richmond is one of our favorite places to go. It is right on the Thames and has beautiful parks. We chose a registration office as we didn’t want a religious ceremony and the garden there was perfect for post wedding pictures.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?  We wanted to make sure that the day was a true reflection of Mark and myself. We wanted to make the day as intimate as possible and make sure that our guests would have a great time.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day?  When we arrived at the venue for the reception and we could see all the flowers and table arrangements come together. It was great to see all the time and effort we had put in to set this up come to life for all our guests.

Did you include any traditions in your wedding?  We decided not to spent the night together before the wedding and Mark and I did not see each other before the ceremony at all. I also did the something old, something new, and something blue tradition. My something old was a vintage cardigan to wear for the cold English nights, Tracy’s something new was her dress, and the something borrowed was my sister’s purse from her wedding. And the something blue was my garter.

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  To remember that this is our wedding. I think sometimes you can get caught up in what you should do, or what people expect you to do. Remember to keep focus as to what is important to you.

What advice do you have for other brides?  To remember that everything will work out in the end, and to relax. Also, I wish I would have had some champagne before we took are wedding photos because I think I would have felt more relaxed while taking them!

Ed Peers captures moments so beautifully – Ross and Aimee’s sweet wedding is chock-full of frame-worthy shots that you’re going to love…

Aimee and Ross left the church to All You Need Is Love by the Beatles.

Says Aimee, “There were large, yellow helium balloons for each of the children which not only came in handy for photos but also kept the children happy all day. They were probably the hit of the event!”

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  St. James is my local family church, and a place where we celebrate christenings and Christmas and so on, so really it was the only choice for us that would allow me to follow the tradition of getting married near my family home. For the reception, we fell for The Olde Bell when we first visited long before we were engaged. We loved the intimate feeling of having a celebration at home, with lots of rooms and space for people to find a nook to enjoy the day at their own volume. Plus, the food is always wonderful; and we knew that if the food was good and the momentum of the day flowed naturally, then we’d have happy guests.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?  We looked at wedding blogs to get ideas, but quickly got overwhelmed and decided to stick to our own ideas and be inspired by classic British garden parties, fitting for our venue by the River Thames in an area famous for regattas. We wanted to create a day that flowed naturally and would be a comfortable experience for our guests from beginning to end, making them feel welcome, loved, spoiled. We aimed for a classic feel, rather than a nostalgic feel. I don’t think we set out to make a day that reflected us and our personalities, but looking back now, by sticking to things that we loved and not trying too hard to be different or quirky it couldn’t have been any more us.

Do you have any budget tips for other brides?  Make sure your outfit and your groom’s outfit make you both feel wonderful. You are the center of attention the whole day, so whatever your budget, make sure you feel amazing!

What was your favorite moment or part of the day?  From Aimee: “Gosh, there are too many! Saying our vows and coming out to bright blue sky and the church bells ringing. Seeing our flowergirls together with their yellow balloons in the garden like a Lewis Carroll storybook. Knowing that my elderly grandfather had made it to the church. Walking into the venue and seeing the flowers for the first time and the tables set-up. The beautiful speeches from our friends and family. The band playing and promenading through the dance floor. Getting my dad on the dancefloor! Looking around and seeing all the people we love happy.”

From Ross: “Getting a glimpse of Aimee in the vestry with her Dad, my family cracking jokes in the church to keep me calm, and walking out of the church with the bells ringing and our family and friends around us. All the quiet moments we got to share with one another during the day. The father of the bride and the best mans’ speeches. Definitely the food and the drink. Every time someone told us how much they were enjoying themselves and how welcome they felt. And our first dance. Something we were not going to do, but eventually we snuck onto the dance floor and the band seamlessly worked a first dance into their set.”

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  Everyone follow your lead on the day: if you smile they will smile, if you dance then they will dance. So if you are happy and smiling you will have a room full of happy smiling guests. Also, have a great team of friends and ushers around you, buy them dinner, give them detailed lists and jobs to do and then trust that everything will be fine. We had a brilliant group of friends and family and the day couldn’t have worked without their hard work around the edges.

What advice do you have for other brides?  Try and build some time into the day to be on your own with your new husband or to sit back and take in the party. You won’t have time to speak to everyone, best to accept this and catch up with people afterwards, but it is worth just standing back and taking a mental snapshot of your friends and family before it all rushes past. Also, choose a photographer you love!

Today’s charming Minneapolis wedding comes to us from Jeff Loves Jessica, who I hope we’ll be seeing lots more of soon! Nora and Reed’s wedding is a perfect blend of bright, modern style and nostalgic details…

Despite the drizzly weather, Nora and Reed took portraits at one of their favorite hangouts, Lake Calhoun.

Reed’s favorite moment of the day? “Skipping down the aisle to I’ve Just Seen a Face with my new wife.”

Nora and Reed chose an utterly unique wedding venue: a boxing gymnasium! Says Reed, “Nora and I wanted an opportunity to create something unique. Other venues were nice, but Uppercut really gave us a chance to create something special. We both wanted a warehouse vibe, but weren’t finding the right mix of size and flexibility, at a reasonable cost, in other more traditional warehouse spaces.”

How awesome is this custom chalkboard sign? So perfect for the gymnasium setting!

The bride and groom planned to take a delayed honeymoon, so they asked guests to share their favorite travel spots to help them decide where to go (the map also doubled as a guest book!).

Reed kindly answered some questions for us about the day!

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?  Looking back on how everything came together, the greatest influence on our planning was the combination of our personalities. The wedding was unconventional, but traditional in many ways. Elements of practicality, creativity and frugality were common themes in our details. Above all my wife and I wanted to create a joyful time for everyone involved. It truly was an expression of the two of us.

Do you have any budget tips for other couples?  Take whatever you think it’s going to cost and double it. Okay, more seriously: spend money on the things that matter most. Food, booze, a good DJ – whatever it is pick the things you are willing to spend money on and do it, and don’t stress out about the rest. And write those things down! If your experience is anything like ours was, you don’t think you care about something, and then you find out you do care, and then you run out of time doing other things, so you don’t care again.

Did you include any traditions in your wedding? We followed a traditional flow of events for both the ceremony and reception. The only other tradition that was included in our service was that we chose to serve communion to our guests, which was very meaningful to both of us.

What was the best advice you received before your wedding?  Know who you are and have confidence in the ways that you want to express yourself to your community. There’s no dearth of feedback that you will receive along the way, so don’t let that energy take away from the little things that make you, you.

Is there anything else that helps tell the story of the day?  From photographers Jeff Loves Jessica: Reed proposed to Nora through an amazing series of screen-printed post-card sized puzzle pieces, each depicting a different scene from Minnesota that was significant in their relationship.  He mailed each postcard to Nora, and once she had collected them all, she pieced them together to find an image of them standing as bride and groom. (I know, right!?!!) They then used these art-pieces as table numbers at their reception, which is just one example of their extraordinary creativity and thoughtfulness!
