Today let’s go to Tuscany! Sarah and Chris chose the lovely Il Salviatino in Florence for their destination wedding, and kindly shared the day with us…
Why did you choose this location for your wedding? We chose to get married abroad to give us the opportunity to style a wedding which was unique to us and allowed us to create a wedding reception without having the expectations of a traditional wedding. We chose Italy because of the relaxed, friendly and modern Italian culture, and we chose Il Salviatino as our venue because as it truly is one of the best venues in Italy!
What was your favorite moment or part of the day? We hired a classic Italian Cinque Cento, which we drove for the short distance from the Town Hall to the reception. It is Italian custom to beep your horn to celebrate your wedding, so when we arrived at Il Salviatino, all our guests heard us coming and were waiting for us as we drove up the driveway. This memory really has stuck in our minds.
Did you include any traditions in your wedding? One of our aims was to make our wedding as non-traditional as possible, so the only tradition we observed was that Chris never saw me in my wedding dress until I arrived at the ceremony.
What advice do you have for other brides? If getting married abroad, it is really worthwhile investing in a wedding planner/interpreter. Elena worked behind the scenes running up to the wedding, and ensured that all the legalities were finalized, and that everything ran smoothly on the day. Most importantly – soak up the day, enjoy every minute, try not to worry about if your guests are enjoying themselves or not and take 5 minutes with your groom away from all the chaos, to reflect on your day.
