Knowing their friends and family were spread out across the country and would have to travel wherever they got married, Corrie & Greg decided to make it a vacation for everyone. So where better to pick then Mexico? This wasn’t your usual beachside affair, though – instead, they chose an elegant garden ceremony (look no further for some serious floral inspiration if your ceremony site includes a tree!) and dinner and dancing under an incredible twinkle light canopy. It didn’t all go according to plan, though – make sure to check out the cake smash that went hilariously wrong, and props to Corrie for laughing through it!

Why did you choose this location for your wedding? We decided to get married in Cabo, where we had gone on vacation together just before getting engaged. On that trip we discovered Flora Farm – we took a tour of the farm, had a few drinks at the bar, and then an amazing dinner (hands down the best pork chop we’d ever had!) We fell in love with the place – the ambience, the food, the character – it felt very ‘us’. And we loved the idea of getting married in Mexico, but at a venue that would be unexpected for our guests.

What was your ceremony music?
Processional: Falling Slowly
Bridal processional: Old Pine
Recessional: The West Wing theme (one of the first common interests we discovered when we started dating was our mutual love for the West Wing.)

Your ceremony in three words. Personal, light-hearted, warm.

Who officiated your ceremony? How did you choose him/her? My brother, Max. We didn’t have a large or traditional wedding party – we each had our sisters as our attendants. So with my brother officiating, all of our siblings had a role in the wedding and were standing up with us during the ceremony, which was important to us.

How did you go about planning your ceremony? A friend gave us a book that she had used to plan her ceremony. It helped us work out a structure, and it had tons of suggestions for each section that we could choose from. We highlighted passages we liked, combined lines from different options and made it our own, and then let my brother have final editing rights so he could have influence as well.

What were your ceremony readings? The bride’s godson read a poem, and Greg’s sister read Blessing for a Marriage by James Dillet Freeman.

What were your vows like? We went for pretty simple vows that resonated with us as being things we really wanted to commit to each other. We started with lots of ideas but ended up writing them together, and we made the same vow to each other.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding ceremony? I think we were both overwhelmed seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony, even though we had seen each other beforehand. And the kiss was good too!

How would you describe your reception? It was magical. The sunset was brilliant that evening and when it got dark, the lights at Flora Farm created such a festive atmosphere. The food and drinks were delicious, impressing even my dad who owns a restaurant and caters weddings. The band was beyond my expectations and really made the party. The speeches and first dances were emotional, and we had all our family and friends in one place. We still find ourselves reminding each other frequently what an incredible evening it was.

What advice do you have for other couples in the midst of planning a wedding? Enjoy the process! We had so much fun planning our wedding together, and making it a wedding that was distinctly our style as a couple. And if you are doing a destination wedding in particular…hire a planner. Amy of Amy Abbott Events was amazing and not only brought our vision to reality, but she made planning a wedding in another country easy.

Did you have a signature cocktail? We picked three cocktails from the amazing list of drinks at Flora Farm including the Farmarita (their take on a margarita which included fresh carrot juice), Farm Julep and a Lavender Martini.

What was your favorite moment or part of the reception? For Greg, it was a playful cake smash that ended up with cake down my dress! The photographer caught the moment perfectly and it is Greg’s favorite picture of the entire wedding.
