Faire Frou Frou is known for their brilliantly curated lingerie shop, though we think they’re equally brilliant when it comes to their blog and Pinterest page. Today they’ve stopped by to share a bit about lingerie with us – both for your big day, and beyond.
There certainly is a romantic vision of the bride on her wedding day; the gorgeous gown, the perfect hair, and even the sweet image of the lacy white intimates under that gown. The tradition of the bridal trousseau and lingerie bridal showers makes lingerie an essential component of the perfect wedding package. However, there is an interesting trend we’ve seen in our 8-year history of owning a lingerie boutique … and that’s what most brides are really wearing on their big day!
The fantasy and goal most brides seek out is wedding day lingerie that is beautiful and will be treasured for a lifetime (see all those lovely images above). Perhaps a fine Italian lace bustier by La Perla in ivory with matching lace and silk trimmed panties. Maybe a delicate Fleur of England bra and panty handcrafted in white Chantilly lace. So many beautiful options from so many talented luxury designers.
While many of our customers select precisely those fantasy options, a good majority are in need of good old basics for walking down the aisle. Our best selling undies for the big day are typically nude, seamless thongs by Commando; the most basic panty in our boutique! As for a bra, most brides have a corset/bustier built into their gown and need accessories like Cleavage Cupcakes or one of those amazing Fashion Forms bras that suits the trickiest dress/bra needs (strapless, backless, plunging neckline, you name it).
When it comes to the honeymoon, that’s a whole different story! That’s where we see most girls budget for their bridal lingerie, and interestingly enough it’s rarely the traditional white, ivory and pale blue. It’s vibrant color, playful details, glamour, glitz, you name it! Our customers are selecting sets that they can wear again without feeling too bridal-looking. It’s a trend we love, because we agree with that train of thought.
We’re interested to know what you ended up doing (or plan on doing). Splurging on lingerie for the actual wedding ceremony, focusing on something incredible for the honeymoon, or both? Personally, we hope to get something special for both!
