It’s such a treat for me to have my friend Jill Gordon on Snippet & Ink today – she’s the go-to planner for anyone getting married in the Hamptons, and creates some of the loveliest weddings. Karen and Dogan’s sweet June wedding is no exception – an elegant yet low-key garden party.
Karen used her grandmother’s wedding ring in the ceremony. Says the bride, “We were very close but she passed away a few years ago, so it meant a lot to me to get married with her ring.”
Guests went home with bags of local favorite, Dreesen’s Donuts.
Bride Karen kindly answered some questions about the lovely wedding day…
Why did you choose this location for your wedding? Growing up, I spent every summer at my family’s house in the Hamptons, and Dogan and I wanted to take advantage of the beauty of the area and get married there. When we saw Bridge Gardens we fell in love with it. The fact that it had just opened to the public was a big bonus as I didn’t love the idea of getting married in a “wedding factory.” I also loved that it was essentially a blank canvas.
What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? I was inspired by the Hamptons’ style and more specifically, the decor of my parents’ house in the Hamptons. I wanted a shabby chic look, mostly whites and beiges, fat flowers, understated, very classic and beautiful, like we were having friends over for dinner and setting a beautiful country table. I wanted it to be like a beautiful garden party, not black tie, no flashy or bright colors, nothing over the top.
What advice do you have for other brides? When you get to the day, drop the small stuff and just try as best you can to be in the moment and take everything in. You should have fun at your wedding and not be worrying about anything at all. What allowed me to do that was my wedding planner Jill Gordon. She coordinated everything down to the minute and I knew I didn’t have to worry about anything. If you’re not working with a wedding planner, I would highly recommend at least hiring a day-of coordinator to free you up from the event production.
