Don’t get me wrong – I love frosting. LOVE it. And I’m a sucker for a classic white wedding cake (see Exhibit A). But there’s something so fun about these unfrosted wedding cakes! I love getting to peek at all the layers of yummy-ness! And really, if the cake and filling are delicious enough, the rest is just, well, the icing on the cake.

Momofuku Milk Bar

Would you ever consider a “naked” wedding cake? Would you go funky like Momofuku Milk Bar? Or simple and sweet like Martha Stewart?

Oh my! How different!!! I depend on the outside frosting to cover up my sloppy layers, I’ll admit. This is super skill to make it look so perfect! =)

These naked cakes are fantastic and depending on the wedding style–would definitely consider them.

I love the exposed cake. It is so natural and tasty looking. I think I will end up doing something just like it.

Love the look of these! Especially the raspberry one from Always A Bridesmaid.
But a) I think someone missed the memo about frosting being delicious, and b) I’d be concerned about how this would affect freshness, both immediately, and after a year in the freezer.

Wow love this trend! It’s so beautiful to see the inner layers of the cake. Would love to photograph something as fun as the Momofuko Milk Bar cake!

Naked cakes are SO my thing! I’ve been saying so for years now, and I’m so glad it’s catching on. Momofuku’s noodle bar is fantastic, so I’m sure the milk bar is just as awesome!

Wonderful roundup Kathryn! I love when brides show personality in their cake choice. I’m also a sucker for icing, but LOVE the rustic look of naked cakes. Just Gorgeous!
