Gosh I love New Orleans! And so do Elise and Chet… “New Orleans is one of the most enchanting cities in the world,” says Elise. “The city represents the heart and soul of Louisiana, and there is so much culture and charm on every street. Palette: midnight black, gold pumpkins, candle white
For my annual Halloween inspiration board, I wanted to avoid anything too obvious, so I chose a gold and black palette (instead of orange and black), and let the main decor be pumpkins painted gold plus lots and lots of candles. Other little details nod to the spooky holiday without being theme-y: a skull-and-crossbones bow tie, and a gorgeous gown reminiscent of a spider web.
On a totally separate note: Sending all my thoughts to everyone on the East Coast – I hope that everyone weathered the storm safely, and that things go back to normal very soon!
Just a hop, skip, jump outside Manhattan is the Queens County Farm, where Albert and Brianna chose to tie the knot. Says Brianna, “We both are from Midwestern families, so we wanted a fun, relaxed, and comforting environment. Queens County Farm is so beautiful and there is so much to see! It is an actual working farm and the staff are so friendly and helpful.”
Albert’s favorite part of the day? Seeing Brianna turn and walk down the aisle – he hadn’t seen her in two days!
Brianna’s favorite part of the day? “Entering the reception as a married couple and seeing everyone so happy and excited for us. It was such a wonderful feeling to have so many people who care for us in one room.”
Guests enjoyed a Southern-inspired menu (fried chicken, biscuits, coleslaw, pimento cheese mashed potatoes, and cold broccoli salad), followed by red velvet, hummingbird, chocolate, vanilla, and lemon cupcakes.
Brianna kindly answered some questions about the day:
What inspired you when you were planning your wedding? Probably my Mamaw. She was always very put together and loved lace, and flowers, and all things girly mixed with a country hospitality feel. My mom also passed that gene to me as well – all the women on my mom’s side are very hospitality driven!
Did you include any traditions in your wedding? We did a candle lighting ceremony. We actually did this after the ceremony, once we entered the reception, because it was too windy to do it outside! It worked out beautifully though.
What was the best advice you received as a bride? To relish every moment of being engaged and of the wedding process and to remember why we are doing this.
What advice do you have for other brides? I would say to be as hands-on as possible. This is a once-in-a-lifetime time in your life. You want to enter that ceremony and reception and feel confident that it is exactly what you have dreamed about your whole life.
Is there anything else that helps tell the story of the day? We really just wanted to make this feel like our wedding, not a cookie cutter event. We poured so much into every detail! The whole day was just wonderful and it was everything I dreamed it would be, from the pinwheels that our florist made to the delicious food.
