When I first got a glimpse of this wedding over on Unruly Things, I was just itching to see more pics and to know more about all of the great details! Matthew at Flowertoss Photography was kind enough to send over great photos of the day, and the bride, Alison, shared all about the DIY details and family and friends who helped to create this beautiful day…

What Alison and Per-Lars wanted for their wedding: … a fun party, with an emphasis on love, family, good music, good food and good humor. We wanted a non-traditional, fun-loving, good time for all. We had an absolute blast at our wedding from beginning to end… the very late end. We stayed up dancing to 3am with a big group of our best friends and family members. The day was one non-stop love fest from beginning to end – we just didn’t want the night to end!
Per-Lars wore orange Converse. Alison wore Marc Jacobs Mary Janes in green satin with silver sequins.
Alison wore a dress from the 1950s that she found on Etsy and had altered and customized by a local seamstress, as well as jewelry from her own line, Katica Jewelry. The bride also designed all of the stationery, from the invitations to the programs.
The August wedding took place in the apple orchard at the groom’s childhood home, on Vashon Island – just a ferry ride from Seattle, and where both the bride and groom were born and raised. They wrote their ceremony together with the friend who officiated.

Per-Lars’ suit was a bargain found on eBay.

The couple made strings of paper flags to decorate the apple orchard, with fun photos clothes-pinned to them. They also made the cute silhouette buttons for guests to take home with them.
Flowers were purchased from a local gardener. The bride’s mother and family members made the bouquets, boutonnieres, and centerpieces.
Alison shares a bit about the food: We got a lot of help with our food! A few family friends roasted a pig and some halibut (a gift that was caught by another friend), while another family friend roasted a lamb. Vashon caterer, Terri Calello, put together a beautiful spread of salads. A group of close friends and family members were asked to bring homemade desserts for a lovely buffet of sweets.
Okay, how cool is this… all of the plates, glasses and napkins were provided from a local organization called Sustainable Vashon, which has a program called “No-Trash Bash.” They loan out all the settings needed for large parties in order to reduce trash, in exchange for a donation of any size to help cover the cost of broken items and to keep the program going. I think every community should have such an amazing program!

Guests enjoyed a photobooth (see some of the pics at Alison and Per-Lars’ wedding website) and dancing to a combination of iPod playlists put together by the bride and groom and a live band – the Wolczko Brothers. And one of Alison’s favorite part of the day was when a bunch of friends and family gave some hilarious speeches, and performed original music and poetry.
How’s this for some golden advice from the bride: Don’t take it all so seriously. Laugh and have fun.

Congratulations Alison and Per-Lars – this is one of those weddings I wish I could have been a part of! Thank you so much for sharing your awesome day with us, and best wishes to you. And a big thank you to Flowertoss Photography and second-shooter Brookelyn Photo for sharing these beautiful images with us!
