I love it when couples go outside the box when planning their weddings – who says the only way to do it is with a dinner-and-dancing reception? Not Megan and Andrew! From the early morning ceremony, to the afternoon filled with bicycling and wine tasting, I’d say it was less traditional and more inventive,” says the bride. The core traditional values and practices were there (vows, rings, family, friends, food, etc.), but our day was certainly unique.”

After saying their vows in Sonoma’s historic plaza, guests enjoyed bag lunches while the bridal party took photos, followed by a wine tasting bike tour. The day ended with dinner at El Dorado Kitchen. What a fun way to celebrate! Our friend Silvana di Franco was there to capture these sweet photos of the day. (As Megan said, “A picture is worth a thousand words…Silvana captured each and every moment perfectly.”)

Megan’s favorite part of the day? “Walking down the aisle – there is no better feeling.”

After the ceremony, Megan changed into a short dress from ASOS for the winery bike tour.

After wine tastings at two favorite Sonoma spots, Bartholomew Park Winery and Sebastiani, everyone came together at El Dorado Kitchen for dinner.

Says the bride, “We saved a lot of money by creating our own bouquets, centerpieces, and aisle decor. We ordered flowers in bulk, and with the help of our bridal party, we assembled all of the arrangements the evening before the wedding. With borrowed wooden boxes and tin buckets, we only spent $400 on an enormous amount of flowers.”

Before dinner, Megan surprised her groom with a heartfelt letter.

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  We took our very first vacation together to Northern California, and our favorite day of the trip was spent in Sonoma. We rented bicycles for the afternoon and rode from winery to winery enjoying wine tastings. We fell in love with the quaint little town of Sonoma and vowed that if we ever got married, we would do it here.

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?  We wanted to recreate our first trip out to Sonoma, but this time with our family and friends. A day filled with bicycles, wine, and loved ones.

Please tell us about any special details from your wedding.  One of our favorite details was the brown bag lunches we provided for our guests. After the ceremony, our guests enjoyed a little picnic on the city square before hopping on their bicycles.

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  I read an article right before our wedding about how every wedding is perfect in its own way. It’s so true. Every wedding is perfect – it’s perfect because it’s yours. Remember this before, during, and after your day. It will be perfect.

What advice do you have for other brides?  Wake up early and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea by yourself. It’s a great time for a little self reflection, meditation, or just peace and quiet before the BIG day begins.
