I’m Kristen. Photography has always been a part of my life. My father was an avid amateur photographer, so we always had a darkroom growing up. Some of my earliest memories are of “making pictures” under the red light. It always felt like magic.
Photography still feels like magic to me – the beauty of a single perfect moment, suspended in time. I love letting each moment unfold in the beauty of a wedding day, knowing that my images tell the story of a new family and capture it for the generations of their family to come.
I started in journalism, photographing everything from football and basketball games, to riots with pepper spray, portraits of professors to fraternity parties. I covered everything, and always came back with the shot and a smile.
I’ve always been drawn to the classic documentary photographers like Henri Cartier-Bresson and Dorthea Lange. “Photography is not like painting,” Cartier-Bresson told the Washington Post in 1957. “There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment the photographer is creative,” he said. “Oop! The Moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever… I suddenly understood that a photograph could fix eternity in an instant.”
I want my images to be so full of life, of the spirit and passion of that instant, that you will remember exactly how you felt in that moment, and relive that each time you view my photographs.
Weddings hold infinite potential for those perfect moments- as each instant captured on your wedding day is a piece of your new family history. I am so inspired by the hope and joy of a wedding day, each glance, each kiss, each embrace- they are magical moments in your life and it is such a blessing for me not only observe but document it.
When I’m not photographing, which is rare, you will probably find me combing the farmers market for the most of-the-moment produce, learning to play golf (translation: losing golf balls in water hazards while loving every minute of being outside in the glorious napa weather) cooking with friends or just enjoying a glass of wine on the porch. I love dogs, champagne, travel and family – not necessarily in that order.
I am deeply honored to be a part of the celebrations I capture. I would love to get to know you, and be a part of your life celebration. I can’t wait to capture your perfect moments!
