All You Need Is Love… and Chocolate

Happy Valentine’s Day dear readers! In addition to our Snapshot of a Marriage post (a celebration of lasting love), we thought we’d give you a post the celebrates the other part of Valentine’s Day we can’t live without: chocolate! We asked some of our favorite wedding vendors to share their most-loved chocolates with us, and the result is a collection of amazing sweets that would make for delicious wedding favors, welcome bag gifts, or just everyday indulgences. “I desire less sweet things as I get older. However, the Poco Dolce bittersweet chocolate tiles are a perfectly sized little taste treat. They come in several flavors but my favorite are the burnt caramel. I love letting the velvety dark chocolate melt in my mouth to reveal the crunchy burnt caramel toffee inside – the combination of flavors and textures is delightful. The small sprinkling of gray sea salt on top finishes the flavor experience perfectly. Heaven!”

“Green & Black’s Organic Dark Chocolate is hard to beat for breaking off corners of a delectable brick – I dig that it is fair trade, organic, the flavor is intense, balanced – and can be used for cooking or for straight up gnawing. I’m partial to the pure bars, because that simple, pure high quality chocolate goes really well with wine and spirits, and if we’re in the mood to eat chocolate, we’re usually in the mood to drink as well.”

“[We worked on some designs for Droga Chocolates] and I think it’s safe to say that Put Your Money On Honey are our absolute favorites. They are dark chocolate covered caramels made with wildflower honey and a dash of salt on top – delicious! We make excuses multiple times a day on why another box should be opened! Research, of course.”

Is your mouth watering yet? I’m not sure I’ve met a chocolate I didn’t like a lot, and there are some I truly love, but I’m always looking to try something new.   • hands down favourite – Rheo Thompson Chocolate Mint Smoothie. I’ve been eating those squares of heaven ever since I was a child. My parents instilled how special and delicious and how slow they should be savoured because every time we had one, a knife was brought out. to cut and share it into tiny bits. This is the kind of chocolate that gets savoured and i guess the knife is what helped us slow down and really taste and enjoy. I still eat it this very same way when I’m lucky enough to have one.

    All of Voges Haut Chocolate exotic chocolate bars! They have so many unusual flavors (like green tea, bacon, black cherry with coconut, smoke and stout, the list goes on …) and in addition to their adorable boutiques in NYC and Chicago you can find them at Whole Foods and Fresh Market.

    Gorant’s Dark Chocolate Meltaway takes me back to my childhood with just one bite! Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, these amazing confections can be found in corporate owned American Greetings Stores or at!

    My husband sent me a box of Fran’s gold bars when we were dating…just out of the blue. These are now my favorite because I love the memory and they’re delicious!

  • I’m not a huge lover of chocolate, but give me some peanut butter M&Ms, and I’ll be happy. I do really wish that someone would make a chocolate filled with pure honey(sort of like a caramello, but with pure honey inside). If you hear of that, please let me know and I’ll be forever in your debt.

    All -time fave chocolate “bonbon” are the milk chocolate peanut butter cups from Trader Joe’s! I love how there is another trader joe chocolate love so I don’t feel like the only odd one. My fave BOX of chocoaltes are the “nuts and chews” box from See’s. I buy them at the airport everytime I leave LA :)

  • How did I not know about white chocolate passion fruit truffles?! Yes, please! One of my recent favorites when I’m craving a little chocolate are the Dark Chocolate Tahitian Vanilla Caramels from Trader Joe’s. After this article, I need a chocolate fix! Thanks for sharing. This may become a bucket list of chocolates to try.

    Has to be Thorntons Viennese Truffles – Thorntons are based in the UK but sometimes we are able to get them here in Australia. They are a gorgeous creamy truffle inside with a very light chocolate shell and sprinkled in superfine sugar….just devine!!
