Board #351 | Wizard of Oz

I’ve had this movie-inspired wedding board sitting around for awhile, and with the Oscars last night, I thought it would be fun to post it today. How about lollipops, hot air balloons, and a rainbow palette against the backdrop of a Kansas farm venue? Glittered, ruby red shoes are a must! What movies would you love to see translated into a wedding or party?

Mood: fantastic whimsy meets simple rustic
Palette: somewhere over the rainbow

GORGEOUS!! Just what I envision for a summer wedding. This is delicious!

  • A.I.S. says:

as a girl who grew up in kansas, and is going back there to have an outdoor wedding on 100 acres of prairie grass….this has completely captured my heart.

  • practicallymarried says:

How fun! What a whimsical, cheeky wedding this would be! Another movie I’d love to see as a wedding is the original Sabrina, with Audrey Hepburn.

  • Caiti says:

    This is fun!

I’d love to see Amelie as a wedding, but you knew that already ;) I just think the French-ness and the playfulness and the vibrancy would be amazing for a wedding.

  • Anela says:

What a fun idea! I would love to see what a Big Fish inspired board would look like. Now I want to make my wedding have a movie inspired theme.

  • AmyLynne says:

Love. It. I was pondering this same thing recently and I (seconding Anela) think Big Fish would be amazing! Some other thoughts, Pleasantville, Finding Neverland, South Pacific (does that count?) and Breakfast at Tiffany’s (although Martha already did that one quite well)

  • Natalie says:

Oh, this is beautiful, and one of my all time favorite movies! I’d say Casablanca is a movie wedding must, Gone with the Wind, and Singin’ in the Rain! All beautiful and classics!

  • Julie Ann says:

oh wow! so imaginative, creative…i LOVE this! every detail…just perfect! *swoon*

  • Ashley Sue says:

wow. that would be so much fun. how could you be at a wedding like that and not enjoy yourself?

    great concept.

  • So fun, it really pops! I second the original Sabrina, with Audrey Hepburn! (which I am trying to channel for my upcoming June wedding) Please… :-)

  • Shana says:

Isn’t that the bridesmaid dress from Confessions of a Shopaholic? :b Fun wedding!

I, too, would LOVE to see Finding Neverland as a wedding!

  • Shana says:

    Some other movies:

    – Wouldn’t Dirty Dancing make a sexy, romantic wedding?! And, of course, (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life would have to be the last song of the evening…

    – What Dreams May Come. Leave out the creepy parts, of course, and center around the beautiful cinematography and “soul-mate” theme and awww *sigh* you’ve got a mesmerizing wedding!

  • Truly Engaging says:

    Fun and lighthearted! Love it!

Audrey Hepburn all the way… I’d suggest Roman Holiday.

  • Pretty. I thought about a wizard of oz… moderate theme a few years ago… before I was even dating anyone.. I thought it could be done classy. You did it. Lovely.

  • Meagan says:

Clearly, Amelie needs to be translated into a wedding…hmm, maybe my next client…I love the Wizard of Oz idea-a classic movie!

  • Jessica Jean says:

This is wonderful! How great would it be to walk down the isle in ruby red slippers?! I would love to see a “Gone with the Wind” inspired wedding.

  • Helpful says:

That is so pretty. i love love love anything with a whimsical feel. Could you please try to do a mid summers night dream or a vaudville/big fish type inspiration board.

  • Shana says:

Kathryn already has a Alice in Wonderland and a Midsummer Night’s Dream board. :) Both are LOVELY! They’re in the archives.

  • westaussiewedding says:

I love it! SO colourful and cheerful without sacrificing elegance and style

  • Mindy says:

I believe has a feature story with wedding themes inspired by movies. The style photos include Finding Neverland (with cute kite cards and a dress up trunk idea), Bonnie and Clyde (Texas wildflowers, etc.), and a few others. Love the feature. Love your board more, of course! And, you know my desire to see a Lorelai-Luke “June 3” inspired wedding with the carrousel and rose vine covered church!

  • christina says:

GORGEOUS!!! i love the movie as idea board. the suggestions so far are fantastic.

    what about some odd-ball movies:
    princess bride
    city of lost children
    dangerous liasons
    henry & june

  • Lucy says:

I’m not sure Dangerous Liaisons or Casablanca or Gone with the Wind would be great motifs for married life though? Doesn’t it go wrong for the central couples in all those films?

  • cdolloff says:

Wow, I am in love with this board. Just at the time when I’m trying to come up with some boards for myself, this is perfect inspiration.

  • Jena Lepitzki says:

I love this board! I am a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz and love the red shoes.

    Great Job Kathryn.

  • I was terrified of The Wizard of Oz as a kid, but I love this board! Plus, red and green are going to be our colors so this is very helpful. Thanks Kathryn!
…I second the Amelie requests. ;)

  • love says:

this is so beautiful and fun. movie themes are awesome and i totally agree with some of these comments. i would love love love to see a Big Fish/Vaudeville/vintage circus inspiration board. I have actually been thinking of making that my wedding theme, i’m just a little stumped on where to start=/

  • Miss Alexandra says:

i'd love to see a benny&joon, you me and everyone we know, and a pride+prejudice (kiera knightly version) inspiration board!

  • i’d like to see Alice in Wonderland done. clocks, rabbits, run colours, imagine what the cake could look like!

    could be very fun

  • Terry says:

oh yeah! and the heaven part of What Dreams May Come, like Shana said. Soooo pretty.

  • Busy Bees says:

ive originally wanted to pull a Wizard of Oz theme for my wedding but i never push through becuase i was too afraid that i wont be able to pull it off! This inspiration board is it! Thanks!!

  • Kaitlin says:

I think a Mary Poppins themed inspiration board would be amazing as well

  • e & d says:

OOO, I was just inspired bc it’s on tv right now- Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium- especially in the hospital scene – bright yellow on white – or the toy store/colorful place in general
