BLESSING & OPENING PRAYER:
Erica’s mom & Alex’s parents step up to join the family
Today, as we share in the sacred and joyful celebration of Erica and Alex’s wedding, it is my privilege to ask, “Who offers their blessing over this couple and their life together – and in gladly giving this blessing also pledges their unconditional love and faithful support for them?’
All parents respond: “We do.”
And we all get to get in on this blessing, too. I invite Erica and Alex’s parents to join in a prayerful blessing over them.
Let’s pray. We are filled with gratitude this moment as we acknowledge the goodness in your partnership and the promise of a life joined. We ask for peace and joy to fill your home, for honesty and respect to abound in your relationship, and that together you will embrace your family, friends, work, and convictions with even greater love. May you be present in this sacred space, able to take in the love of each other and of your community gathered here and of God, who has brought you mysteriously to each other. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
Parents are seated.
WELCOME & GREETING TIME:
Welcome! The couple has been blessed, the day is gorgeous, and all the right people showed up. I’d say all this is cause for celebration! And any decent celebration is made even better when the guests know each other, so…chances are you are seated near someone you haven’t met – or someone you haven’t seen in far too long. Plus, Erica & Alex want to say hi to each other! So, take a moment to move around a bit and say hi to each other. Get to know someone new; maybe even make a new best friend.
Few moments of greeting time.
REFLECTION ON MARRIAGE & COMMUNITY:
A passage of scripture that has been a guiding one for Erica and Alex is a beautifully succinct statement about the character and nature of love. It comes from Romans 12:10: “Be devoted to one another in Love. Honor one another above yourselves.” As we take a few moments to reflect on their relationship, you will see these themes of love, honor, and devotion appear all throughout their story.
Then the pastor extemporaneously spoke about love, honor, and devotion in our relationship.
CHARGE (the holy pep talk!):
Here Melissa talked about the commitment of marriage, the image of marriage as a sacred covenant between partners, and marriage as the daily opportunity to show love.
Then Melissa offered this to Alex and I:
Erica, do you understand and accept this responsibility and do you promise to do your very best each day to create a loving, healthy, and happy marriage? If so, say “I do”.
Alex, do you understand and accept this responsibility and do you promise to do your very best each day to create a loving, healthy, and happy marriage? If so, say “I do”.
At this point in time, Erica and Alex have written vows that they will read to each other. Erica will start and then Alex will follow.
I vow to you that I will forever be your supporter and best friend. That I will attempt to approach each day with the affection, focus, and dedication you deserve. That I will seek compassion, kindness, and respect in our marriage and in our journey together. That I will grow with you, and for you, and that I will love you for an eternity.
Alex and Erica each have a ring that they will give each other today – a reminder of the growing love that will continue to widen, and deepen, and change throughout the seasons from this day forward. Andy, the rings please…
Alex, repeat after me:
Erica, I give you this ring / as a symbol of our vows. / With all that I am and all that I have, / I honor you.
Erica, repeat after me:
Alex, I give you this ring / as a symbol of our vows. / With all that I am, and all that I have, / I honor you.
PRONOUNCEMENT & KISS:
Erica & Alex, it is with deep love and affection that I now pronounce you husband and wife.
You may now make this official with a kiss!.
PRESENTATION OF THE COUPLE:
Family & Friends, it is my distinct honor and pleasure to be the first to introduce you to Mr. and Mrs. Alex & Erica Jackson!
