Dresses Befitting a Princess

Based on what we’ve seen from past royal brides, my guess is that Miss Middleton will be donning something with sleeves, and I imagine that means we’ll be seeing lots more brides moving away from the strapless numbers that are so popular lately. Here, a round-up of a few of my favorite wedding gowns with long sleeves, cap sleeves, and a couple that are sleeveless (but not strapless!).

Would you wear a dress with long sleeves?

  • I did! But in all honesty, it’s because I have tattoos on my arms that I got while I was quite young, and did NOT want them showing at my wedding.

Sigh, take that last dress, add sleeves, and make it short? My dream dress!

I really wanted long sleeves but couldn’t find them in my price range. I ended up getting a strapless dress then wearing a lace bolero over it to get the sleeves I wanted.

  • I love wedding dresses with sleeves, especially cap sleeves. I wanted a non strapless dress for my wedding, but I had a hard time finding one that was flattering on my body and in my price range… oh and I totally vote for us wearing hats to the next wedding! Although I don’t know if curly girls look good in hats.

  • I SO hope that this will start a non-strapless trend. While strapless is nice, seeing it at EVERY SINGLE WEDDING I photograph is getting really really old. I want to see someone branching out. Bring on the sleeves!!!!

  • Oh my goodness I’m loving the “Oscar” dress with the precious cap sleeves!

And I agree with Krystal, sleeves would be lovely to see in addition to strapless. Amen for the cute cardigans and shrugs I’ve been seeing lately.

I’ll be wearing long sleeves on my Big Day in August! My vintage dress is satin, with a lace overlay, and the sleeves are un-lined, so, see through: hopefully ethereal ;-) Cant wait to see what Kate wears! x

  • Oh I *love* sleeves in a dress – so flattering to so many & so much for room for cool design.

  • Love this! I personally have a strapless, but my wedding is in July. I think the right style with sleeves is amazing, especially for weddings during this time of year when the weather is so unpredicable (I live in Pennsylvania, so it is always unpredictable here!). Loved Kate’s, or should I say Catherine’s, dress. It was absolutely perfect and appropriate.

I really wanted to find a lace dress with either wide straps or cap sleeves for my wedding, but I just could not find one that was flattering on my larger bust and broader shoulders. Strapless, with a sweetheart neckline, was just so much more delicate and lovely on my frame!

  • Where did you find the gown with the girl with the red flower in her hair? I’ve been searching the sites provided and can’t seem to find it but I LOVE it!

I have ALWAYS wanted a dress with sleeves. I just think they are so classy and beautiful – and flattering too! I am so excited that more dresses will sleeves will be available now and at reasonable prices. Most of the dresses available now seem to be from high-end designers. I can’t wait to see what comes out this year!

YES! Bring on the sleeves. I think they’re often much more flattering than strapless. Straps, sleeves, something…I welcome them all!

  • Oh goodness, I got married six years ago when the strapless thing was so popular. There wasn’t anything in any of the stores I looked at that had sleeves! I did not want a strapless dress, I wanted something Grace Kelly or Maria from The Sound of Music like, but, I was young and allowed myself to be pushed around by the saleswoman. As a result, I hated my dress then and hate it even more now. So thrilled that Kate’s dress will bring that classic style back!

  • oh yeah, we need some sleeves or at least some straps.
I, too, am so very sick of strapless.
these examples are so classy, very nice =)
