Victoria & Jackson | DIY Wedding at Cafe Amelie

New Orleans weddings are always some of my favorites, and I know you’re going to love this one from Magnolia Pair Photography.

The couple chose the lovely courtyard of Café Amelie for their ceremony and reception.

What’s a New Orleans wedding without a second line?! Says Victoria: “The second line is a group of people who gather at a traditional New Orleans jazz funeral to honor the life of the deceased and send them off in a spirit of joy. It follows a band (the first line), dancing or walking, holding an umbrella or handkerchief to add to the spirit of the procession. The second line has become a symbol of celebration in New Orleans, not only for weddings and funerals but for anything you can think to celebrate. We loved having all of our out of town guests from the North join us in this experience!”

Victoria and Jackson’s wedding was full of details created by the couple and their friends and family, from the flowers to the escort card display to the cupcakes. Even the photographers were a sister and friend of the bride!

Guests enjoyed a Pimm’s Cup signature cocktail.

Victoria answered some questions about the day:

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  To us, it’s simply the most beautiful courtyard in The French Quarter. It was an easy choice. Also, it was the place we took both our sets of parents for their first meeting!

What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?  The courtyard where we’d be marrying played a big role. Also our wedding date was Saint Patrick’s Day, so we played up the green without going over the top with it.

What was your favorite moment of the day?  Standing at the altar marrying my sweetheart. Looking into his eyes and having everyone else (except Jamie, who was our officiant) melt away. I felt like we were the only two people in the world who ever existed. I’ll never forget it.

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  Hands down the best advice I received came from my little brother and his bride, Robbi. They told Jack and me not to leave one another’s side the entire evening. They made this pact on their wedding day, and so did we! It was perfect. Every time Jackson and I went to play the ‘remember when’ game days after the wedding, we had the exact same memory. Neither of us missed a thing because we truly experienced it together.

What advice do you have for other brides?  Include your groom. My husband is an artist in his own right and was very helpful and wonderfully involved in his opinions regarding color and aesthetic. He chose the color for the bridesmaid dresses. I am not a pink girl, but he noted that the pale pink swatch was his favorite when I brought them home. It was beyond perfect. So if he shows interest in wanting to have an input, I say ask him!

  • What a gorgeous wedding! Simple, yet totally chic. The couple seem to be having such a wonderful time, and the photos capture this spirit beautifully. Love it! Big smile and hello from Berlin, Germany, to New Orleans!

  • Absolutely stunning! It’s ironic because I’m a self-proclaimed Nolaphile, and I was just searching for New Orleans weddings since they are so dreamy and gorgeous. There aren’t enough out there in the wedding blog world, and I’m so happy this gem popped up on your blog!

Beautiful wedding! I’m actually wearing the same dress in November! Random question, and completely understand if you can’t answer it, but in the picture of the guest removing her escort card, is it possible to find out where she got her dress? I’ve looked all over online and can’t locate it. I’d really appreciate it!
