When Christine Gallagher sent me the photos from Jenna and John’s wedding, I knew it would be perfect for Kentucky Derby Saturday! Though the wedding took place at John’s sister’s home in South Carolina, Jenna is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and wanted to bring some of her hometown to the party. They decided on a Kentucky Derby party!
Invitations by Momental Designs.
All of the flowers were done by The Purple Iris. They made sure to incorporate Jenna’s favorite flower, peonies.
Guests were asked to come in Derby attire, so of course all of the ladies wore their best hats! It really added to the feel of the party, and even added an extra decor element to the day.
Guests were asked to leave well wishes to the lovebirds that were pre-addressed and pre-stamped. All of the notes were waiting for Jenna and John in their mailbox when they returned home from their honeymoon.
The cake, by Creative Confections, was a delicious red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and chocolate ganache.
Jenna made sure to incorporate all of the classic Kentucky Derby details: mint juleps, Derby programs, Derby pies. There were also televisions set up around the house so guests could watch the “Run for the Roses” as it happened! Ashley Baber helped with planning and coordinating the event.
High Lonesome, a South Carolina bluegrass band, played at the reception.
Jenna shares one of her favorite moments from the day with us: There was a 60% chance of rain throughout the day, but it rained only two drops which both fell on my arm during the wedding. It was surreal, almost as if they were my mother’s tears of joy. After the ceremony, the skies cleared up and we had a beautiful afternoon with a perfect pink and blue sunset.
Congratulations Jenna and John! Thank you so much for sharing all of the lovely details from your fun day with us. And a big thank you to Christine Gallagher for sharing these photos with us!
