Bring two or three photos of yourself wearing makeup you liked, not only pictures of other brides. A photo of a dark-haired model in soft glam won’t translate directly onto blonde coloring, but a photo of you on a good day shows me what you already feel comfortable in.

Barely-there is harder than it looks on fair skin, because every product shows. I keep the base breathable and satin, conceal only where needed and use a peach-pink cream blush for warmth. Don’t try a new facial, peel or active serum in the final couple of weeks. Even a gentle one can leave dry patches or a breakout that foundation sits on badly. Stick with what your skin already knows.
Self-tan and spray tan
If you want color, do a test tan before your trial so we match foundation to it. Book the real one a couple of days before the wedding, not the night before, so it has time to settle and stop transferring. A tan that’s too deep next to blonde hair and an ivory gown can look orange in photos, so I’d go a shade lighter than you think.
Sun
A pink nose or peeling shoulders the week of the wedding is very hard to cover on fair skin. Wear sunscreen and a hat at every outdoor event that week, including the rehearsal.
Silver for Ash Blondes, Gold for Honey, Rose for Everyone in Between
Your blonde’s undertone does most of the deciding for you. Cool, ash and icy blondes look right in taupe, mauve, silver and pink. Warm and honey blondes glow in peach, bronze, copper, champagne and gold. Rose and soft brown sit comfortably in the middle. From there, pick how much definition you want and test it: base, lip, lashes and a flash photo, worn for several hours. The face you forget you’re wearing by the end of that trial is the one you’ll be happiest with in your photos.
