A round face is usually soft through the cheeks, with width and length close to equal, and that softness is part of why round-faced brides look so young in photos. I’m not trying to carve it into a different shape. What I do is move things up and out: contour a little higher than usual, blush angled toward the temples, highlight kept to the top of the cheekbone, eye makeup that finishes on an upward line. That gives the face structure for flash and ceremony light without making it look done. Brows Do More Lifting on a Round Face Than Contour Does

Contour that looks right face-on can look like a stripe once you turn your head, and most wedding portraits are taken at an angle. I check every round-face contour from both sides before I’m happy with it.
- I find the hollow under the cheekbone by touch, not by sucking the cheeks in, which places contour too low.
- Contour starts near the ear and fades before it reaches the middle of the cheek.
- Blush overlaps the top edge of the contour slightly, so there’s no visible gap between them.
- I blend down the jaw and onto the neck, so the jawline shading doesn’t stop in a hard line above the collar.
Hair, Neckline and Earrings Finish the Shape
Makeup can only lift so much on its own. A little volume at the crown, a V or sweetheart neckline and drop earrings all add length, while a tight bun with flat sides and studs makes the face look rounder. I always ask to see the hair plan and the dress before the trial, because the same makeup reads very differently with a high updo than with loose waves round the cheeks.
Small Placement Shifts, Big Difference in Photos
Nothing in this list hides a round face. It’s all placement: colour moved higher, eye shapes finished outward, highlight kept on the high points, brows given a little arch. Those small shifts are what show up in photos. Take the two looks you like most to your trial and ask your artist to show you the placement from the side as well as the front. A few millimetres of difference in where the blush starts is often the whole story.
